Business - Final Thoughts

Since the beginning of 2026, there have been approximately 30 business closures announced - some that are notable include Youngblood, Rustica, Twenty Below, Botanical Brothers, Charlie's Place, and 46 North Pints & Provisions. For context, since 2020, the largest number of closures was in 2022 at a whopping 33. While new businesses are opening, this rate of closures is alarming, especially since this is just from the first half of the year.

As you know, I always try to focus on uplifting small local businesses. The purpose in doing so is to raise awareness and support for all the cool and unique businesses in our community and stimulate our local economy. One thing that I hope to leave with you all is the importance of supporting local.

When corporate box stores, those that can leverage their size to offer lower prices and better discounts while simultaneously offering subpar quality and service, move into an area, the local economy tanks, the variety and uniquity of options decrease, and the rate of poverty rises (due to small businesses closing and big businesses paying less than a living wage).

I understand that corporate backed businesses are cheaper and more convenient, but small businesses can't grow to offer comparable convenience unless we bind together and support them. The FM Metro is rich and unique because of the variety of options that we offer. Don't let "the man" strike it down! Support local today!
